Program Director -DJ B. Original

As a native of St. Louis, B.Original’s interest in hip-hop started at about age five when he heard one of his older sisters playing “Rapper’s Delight.”

The combination of spoken word, rhythms, and the “party” feel hooked him instantly and he wasn’t able to let go. That one song shaped B.Original, and he became a true product of hip-hop from its early stages.

B.Original’s growing interest in hip-hop eventually led him to DJing. What started off as just a hobby became something much larger. The first record he bought was L.L. Cool J’s “Radio.” B.Original played that record over and over and still has the original copy, scratches and all.

After many years of paying dues, D.Jing with a dual cassette deck and boombox, mismatched turntables, and broken down amps, B.Original eventually became one of the most well known DJ’s in St. Louis. It was at that point he decided to try his hand at producing, working a Midwest hip hop collective called Jus Us League.

Shortly thereafter B.Original was introduced to Jason “Jay E” Epperson, the prolific beat-smith behind Nelly and the St. Lunatics through a mutual friend. They developed an instant friendship and had a lot in common due to their love of rap music and DJing. Jason was the person that taught B.Original most of his studio techniques and helped him develop his own style further.

Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, B.Original moved to New York and began working with legendary DJ Chuck Chillout after joining his record pool. Chuck showed him the “in’s and out’s” of hip-hop; the birth place, where it all started. He provided B.Original with a great foundation. In fact, B.Original is frequently inspired by the experience of learning about hip-hop from someone that was actually there.

New York proved to be a great experience and after honing his skills to razor sharp precision, B.Original made a move to Los Angeles. After spending a year networking and grinding on the left coast, he met Prodigal Sunn from the mighty Sunz of Man/Wu Tang Clan. This “chance” meeting turned into a very productive and wonderful relationship in which B.Original produced most of Prodigal’s debut album and co-A&R’d and co-Executive Produced the project. Since then, B.Original has remained on his grind, DJing, producing, promoting live events, and putting out mixtapes.
